Pre-Intermediate Level

Our Pre-intermediate class is designed to develop both strong elementary students and true pre-intermediate students by building on their existing skills. All four skills (reading/writing/listening/speaking) are developed in context using a wide variety of material on many topics. Students widen their understanding of English and extend their ability to use the language for general communication purposes. Grammar study at this level explores new tenses and structures and introduces self-check exercises.

After studying the Pre-intermediate course, learners should:

• Be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
• Be able to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
• Be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
